Core Aeration

Allows essential nutrients, oxygen and water to easily access the root system promoting healthy turf development…especially in compressed lawns.

What is Aeration?
Aeration is the naturally occuring process of air exchange between the soil and its surrounding atmosphere. Practically speaking, aeration is the process of mechanically removing small plugs of thatch and soil from the lawn to improve soil aeration.

Benefits of Aeration
• enhance soil water uptake
• improve fertilizer uptake
• improved turfgrass rooting
• reduced water runoff and puddling
• enhanced heat and drought stress tolerance
• enhanced that breakdown

What should you expect?
Following an aeration process the lawn will be dotted with small plugs pulled out from the soil. Within a couple weeks these plugs of thatch and soil break apart and disappear back in to the lawn. About 7-10 days after the holds will be filled with white, actively growing grass roots. These roots are a sign that the turfgrass is responding to the additional oxygen, moisture and nutrients in the soil from the aeration process.

On compacted soils and on sloped lawns, you will see an immediate difference in the water puddling and runoff after a rainfall. After an aeration the lawn will be able to go longer between watering times and with repeat aerations over time the lawn will show enhanced heat and drought stress tolerance.

FAQ

Why is the grass greener on the other side of the fence?

With any program we recommend three fertilizers; one in spring, summer and fall. It is recommended that a core aeration is also done in the spring to open up the soil and let the granules get right to the root system. All the applications are tailored to meet the seasons needs and will keep the lawn green and healthy. If your lawn is not staying green it probably requires more water or perhaps the grass is being cut too short.

Why should I choose Lawn Rangers?

We are a family owned company and pride OURSELVES on service. We are not a big organization with automated “press one”, “press two” phone lines. Our office staff will immediately answer the phone and answer your call. If the office person cannot answer your question immediately, she will discuss the question with the owner and get back to you as soon as possible.

When should I have my lawn Aerated?

Normally we aerate a lawn in the spring time before the ground gets too hard with the hot summer sun. We can also aerate in the fall. Aeration allows air, water, and nutrients to better penetrate the soil by reducing the thatch layer in the turf. It is recommended that aerations be done yearly.

What is your guarantee?

Lawn Rangers prides itself on customer service. We work with our customers to provide the best lawn possible and if you are not satisfied, we are not happy. Our guarantee is that we will explain to you how and why things work, why things may not work and our best recommendation to improve your lawn.

What is the best time of day to water the lawn?

Always water the lawn during the early day. It is a waste of water to water the lawn during the peak sun periods as much of it evaporates before it can reach the root system. Do not water at night as it produces fungus problems that you will wake up to in the morning.

Proactive Preventive care works best!

All lawns have some grubs. Damage happens if a lawn is weak, or the number of grubs is very high (more than five to ten per square foot on an average lawn). Watering for an hour and a half to two hours once a week and having your lawn professionally fertilized will make your grass grow deeper, stronger roots and regenerate injured roots faster. It will also increase your lawn’s tolerance level for grubs.

Digging animals can be deterred in many ways, from fencing to smells they don’t like. Some of our customers have had success with motion activated water sprinklers, or motion light detectors.

Repairs

If grub damage has occurred despite your best efforts, immediate repair is needed to prevent further problems later. Rake out any loose, dead grass and have us complete a core aeration and over seeding. If animals have flipped up to grass when digging, don’t despair. Wet the flipped turf to soften it and roll it back into place – if your grass is generally healthy there is a good chance that if it is cared for it will re-root, just like sod.
